1. Why did you set up MyMedicalProfile?
As doctors working in the NHS we felt there was a desperate need to help patients engage in the management of their health conditions! We believe that patients are disempowered by healthcare professionals being in control of the patient’s medical information. Whereas, if patients had their own documentation of their medical conditions in terms they and the healthcare providers understand, they would have a strong starting point for all consultations.
2. What is your vision for this service?
We see this service empowering patients to play and equal role in consultations with healthcare providers. Helping patients access the information their healthcare providers will want to know enables them to enter consultations confidently.
3. Does the NHS not provide this service?
No currently in the UK all medical records are held by the healthcare providers. We strongly believe that by patients taking ownership of their medical records they will be empowered to interact with healthcare providers on a more meaningful level.
4. Why is this service not free?
This service has been set up by a group of doctors passionate about empowering patients to increase their involvement in the doctor/patient relationship. However, to enable this secure service to be provided there are real costs involved. We have kept the cost as low as possible, just £35.88 a year, making this affordable to as many people as possible.
5. Travelling abroad?
Travelling brings many of us a great pleasure every year. But, the unforeseen can always happen; from a lost bag, with your medications, to a hospital admission. Having access to your key medical information, securely stored online, gives you peace of mind that wherever you are, what ever happens, those caring for you can have all your relevant information.
